Former Prime Minister and JD (S) chief H.D. Deve Gowda, 88, is inspecting COVID-19 in a private hospital as his wife, 84-year-old Chennamma Deve Gowda, tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
However, Mr. Gowda himself tweeted on Wednesday morning that he and his wife tested positive, later at Manipal Hospital, where he was admitted to have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
C. N. Manjunath, director of the Jaydev Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, who is also Mr. Gowda's son-in-law, said he had tested RT-PCR negative, but his chest CT showed mild symptoms of a COVID-19 infection.
Ms Chennamma had developed a fever on Sunday after returning from Holenarasipura, where she had visited a temple and attended a fair. Dr. Manjunath said that his daughter Shailaja, the gunman and other assistants at his residence have been released and will be tested on the fifth day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Health Minister of Karnataka K.K. Sudhakar and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah took to Twitter to wish the couple a quick recovery.
