'Riot experts must be defeated through unity'

Referring to incidents of violence by BJP cadre during the visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Coimbatore South seat, Makkal Needi Maim (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan said on Wednesday that "riot experts" should be defeated through unity needed.

Mr. Haasan, who is contesting in Coimbatore South against BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan and Congress's Mayura Jayakumar, wrote on social media that he has been insisting that Coimbatore needs peace and harmony.

"That's why I am constantly saying that Coimbatore needs a leader who loves people beyond caste and religion to ensure social harmony," he said.

Mr. Haasan and Ms. Mayura later visited Biwi Yama Footwear, which came to the shop which was attacked by the BJP cadre.

An MNM release stated that after supporting the shop owners, Mr. Haasan bought a pair of shoes from there. Shopkeepers also shouted slogans to support the candidate.
