World Cup qualifying | Belgium and Netherlands run riot


Belgium and the Netherlands scored a combined 15 goals in the big round in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, while Portugal suffered another setback to Cristiano Ronaldo in their win against a Luxembourg team.

Belgium defeated Belarus 8–0 to stay on top in Group E, while the Dutch defeated Gibraltar 7–0 to put Turkey in second place.

Ronaldo scored his 31st goal in the World Cup to qualify for the second half in Portugal's victory.

Second half fall

World No. 195 Gibraltar kept the Netherlands at bay before breaking up but fell in the second half on the artificial grounds of the Victoria Stadium.

The visitors added their 1-0 halftime lead with four goals in the 64th, then two more passes in the end.

Turkey lost their chance to clinch their third straight win after taking a 2–0 lead in a 3–3 draw with Latvia.
